Introduction
Mining engineers are responsible for the planning, design, and operation of a mine. Management of underground mines is restricted to mining engineering graduates. These courses provide a comprehensive knowledge in a broad range of science and technology, including geology, surveying, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering, computing and environmental science, particularly those aspects concerned with conservation of the environment, health and safety, ventilation, pollution and management of people and resources.

Master of Engineering Science (Mining) 工程科学硕士(采矿)

Course Organisation
Students will select 300 credits of course and project work to complement their educational background and career aspirations, after consultation with and approval by the course coordinator. Units may be selected from the list of generic special units and projects (see below) offered in the core mining engineering subjects and from other appropriate units offered within Western Australia School of Mines Graduate Diploma or Masters courses. Instruction in the special units may take the form of tutorials, together with supervised reading and practical work. Students are required to do one or more project units equivalent to approximately one third of the course credits in consultation with academic staff. Project units may involve both field and laboratory work and all will require the submission of a written report and or dissertation.
Career Opportunities
Career paths for mining professionals include in-house specialists in mining and chemical companies, consultants, academics and researchers. Graduates can expect to obtain employment within these sectors or to further their current careers in mining engineering within the minerals industry.

Course Organisation
This course aims to broaden cross- and inter-disciplinary design and art skills and knowledge by engaging the student in professional design and art discourse. Examples include live, or virtual exhibitions, industrially related projects, design and art schemas and models that are applicable to design and art, and other fields. The course includes a combination of academically directed and individually inspired work, group activities and discussion. The course encourages professional and personal development through investigative learning that is relevant and transferable to the circumstances of real organisations.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership in the Australian Graphic Design Association, Perth Art Directors Club, Design Management Institute, and Design Institute of Australia. PICA: Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Arts Source: The Artists Foundation of Western Australia, NAVA : National Association for the Arts Ltd.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of design and art generally find employment within all avenues of creative industries, including design studios, practicing artist, advertising agencies, community art, public relations and marketing organisations, public art, curatorial, arts administration, art and design teaching. The School of Education requires all Secondary Education students to pass a literacy competence test in the first year of the course. Applicants for this course also need to be eligible for a Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Card.STAT elements considered are E, V and Q.

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
