Canterbury College(http://www.liuxue360.com/au/canterburycol/)will once again open its doors for our next Open Day in 2012 to be held on Saturday 19 May from 9.00am – 12.00noon to offer prospective students and their families a glimpse of College life.
Students and teachers will be on hand to answer any questions and from there,
people will tour parts of the College they are interested in.
Our tours are conducted by student ambassadors so that families experience the “real” Canterbury – from the students’ perspective, see the College under the direction of a current College student.
Canterbury offers a seamless Kindergarten to Year 12 co-educational program with a rich curriculum and opportunities for all students to pursue their dreams through flexible pathways to university, further education, a trade or employment.
Canterbury College is an independent day school affiliated with the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane.
Enrolments are open to students from all Christian denominations and non-Christian faiths.
The College celebrates and worships together in a College Family Chapel Service, held once a year. It is an expectation that all students and their families attend this service, as it is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community. Form class Chapel services are also arranged throughout the year and all parents are most welcome to attend.
OUR MISSION
The Mission of Canterbury College is to serve God by preparing people in an inclusive learning community to deal effectively with the joys and challenges of their individual lives.
OUR VISION
Our Vision is to inspire people to achieve their personal, social and educational goal by providing the best affordable education in an environment that nurtures and promotes self awareness and growth based on strong Christian values.
Learning Environment
The College offers a rich curriculum, with opportunities for all students to pursue their dreams through flexible pathways to university, further education or employment. The extra-curricular program is extensive and varied, offering students opportunities to excel in sport, cultural pursuits and other intellectual endeavours such as debating.
The students receive a well-rounded education, both within and outside the classroom to assist in the development of life-long learning. The College atmosphere is founded upon good relationships among staff, students and parents, as well as the wider community. The College ethos is based on mutual respect, support and co-operation. Our rich and diverse academic program is supported by a full curriculum of activities, camps and excursions. Technology is integrated in all year levels, providing students with access to shared sets of laptop and desktop computers as part of their day-to-day learning.
“My place to inspire students to achieve.”
“Working as an ESL teacher at Canterbury College is very rewarding. I meet students when they first arrive and take the time to get to know them as individuals. I listen to stories from their homeland and witness their excitement at being in a new country. I always feel great pride when I see their language skills develop and the sense of achievement they feel.”
Location and Transport
Canterbury College is located in South-East Queensland, in the suburb of Waterford. The school is positioned half-way between Brisbane City and the Gold Coast with travelling time to each location approximately 30 minutes. Nearby, amenities such as movie theatres and shopping malls are easily accessible.
Canterbury College homestay families are individually selected from our surrounding community. Many Canterbury families are also homestay families with children who attend Canterbury College. The majority of our homestay families are conveniently located in the surrounding suburbs and either travel to and from school by private transport or bus.
International Students can use the same bus stops and public transport to travel into Brisbane City or to the Gold Coast beaches. Sunnybank, a neighbouring suburb, is Brisbane’s largest Asian cultural precinct offering traditional cuisine and casual student employment opportunities.
“My place to explore.”
“On the weekends I can use the local bus service to travel with friends to famous tourist destinations such as the Gold Coast. My homestay family have taken me on day trips to theme parks and zoos. I have even cuddled a koala!”

Our Courses
At present, Canterbury College caters to International Students who have had exposure to English in their home country or have completed a Secondary School Preparation Program in Australia. These courses are available nearby in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast and focus on English language learning, language skills, main school subject area content, study skills and cultural information in order to provide a framework for a total learning experience for students. This experience is aimed specifically at assisting students to participate effectively in subject area classes when they arrive at Canterbury.
When International Students begin their studies at Canterbury, they are enrolled in small and personal ESL classes. ‘Applied Literacy’ is delivered by specialist teachers who cater to the unique needs of overseas students for whom English is not their native language. TESOL qualified staff give small group lessons to assist in their acquisition of English language skills.
In the future, Canterbury College plans to offer its own Preparation Programs for Junior and Secondary students who will be able to complete this course on campus and then transfer seamlessly into mainstream classes.
Our Homestays
Canterbury International students are accommodated with English speaking homestay families who live in the surrounding suburbs of the school. Our homestay families make sure that each student experiences every facet of the Australian lifestyle through family meals, day trips and conversation. Students will gain an understanding of our culture and will be able to practise their English in a relaxed, supportive family atmosphere.
Homestay Families are expected:
to provide a very caring and supportive environment and treat the student as one of their own family members;
to provide a comfortable, clean single room for each student. The room must be well ventilated and have adequate lighting, suitable for study. The room must have a comfortable bed with clean linen, a wardrobe, a desk and a chair for study. This room is to be regarded as the student’s private space;
to provide three nutritious meals a day and snacks as required; and
to be located within a reasonable distance of the school.
