The College was founded in 1995, following the amalgamation of the Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Moreton Bay Region. Today, the multi-campus College operates as the principal Catholic College on the Redcliffe Peninsula. Southern Cross Catholic College has three campuses located in Scarborough, Kippa Ring and Woody Point; accommodating students in Prep to Year 6 and a fourth campus in Scarborough accommodating middle and senior years students from Year 7 to 12.
The College strives to provide each student with a coherent and seamless transition from Prep to Year 12 and maintains a proud record of academic and sporting achievement. Offering a comprehensive education for all students, the uniqueness of the College and diversity of campus locations allows students, and their families, access to facilities unparalleled in Queensland Catholic Education.

OUR MISSION
In light of the Gospel and the educational values of its Founders, our College is a Christian community of lifelong learners committed to nurturing the gifts and potential of its members. We seek to serve the wider community, promote dignity and justice for all people and be active stewards of the environment.
We uphold these guiding principles which are integral to the life of the College.
The College is committed to continuing and developing the tradition of Catholic Education begun by its founders.
The College community respects and values the dignity of each person.
The College affirms the practices of inclusivity and ongoing pastoral support of its members.
Learning will be conducted in a manner which benefits all members of the school community.
Social justice in all its expressions is a touchstone in college life.
We recognise our oneness with the Universe and accept our responsibility for the wellbeing of our environment.
College life reflects a collaborative partnership between all members working to achieve shared educational goals.
These two statements are the most important documents to be published and implemented in our community. They are our belief and values and command all our actions in keeping with this.
Courses & Subjects
The core business of Southern Cross Catholic College is learning. We aim to empower our learners to shape, change and enrich our world and give witness to the Gospel message. The curriculum at the College refers to all the experiences which occur within the school environment. The formal, explicit curriculum is the planned, taught and assessed learning of students, whilst the informal or implicit curriculum is inherent in the relationships, interactions, practices, processes, systems, and structures that surround learning. Southern Cross Catholic College strives to provide all students with a seamless and coherent program of learning from Prep to Year 12. Such a curriculum builds on students’ prior knowledge and experiences, becomes increasingly more complex and abstract, and provides authentic contexts for learning as they journey through their schooling. A relevant and meaningful curriculum is future focused and attentive to the needs of today’s youth and their world. It is based on the belief that all students are lifelong learners and each person can achieve success in learning.
Learning communities are outcome oriented as they strive for students to achieve the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to function as active and effective community members. Teachers in the Early Years Phase of Learning (Prep to Year 3) use the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines and the Years 1-10 Key Learning Area Syllabuses (Queensland Studies Authority) that state key and core outcomes across eight learning areas. Teachers ensure all students are provided with multiple opportunities to demonstrate the outcomes, i.e. what each student knows and can do. The eight key learning areas are; English, Mathematics, Science, Studies of Society and the Environment (SOSE), The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology, and Languages other than English (LOTE). At Southern Cross Catholic College the students are also given the opportunity to demonstrate learning outcomes in Religious Education which fulfil the requirements of Brisbane Catholic Education’s Religious Education Guidelines.
Teachers in the Senior Years Phase of Learning (Years 10-12) plan teaching, learning and assessment experiences for their students based on the QSA Senior Syllabuses. Students may also choose to complete a combination of Authority and Authority-registered subjects which most suits their interests, capabilities, talents and career aspirations. As students progress through to Years 11 and 12, they are continuously assessed in each of their subjects. These assessments are monitored by the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA), and at the end of Year 12 the Authority issues a Student Education Profile. In the Vocational Education Course, students have the opportunity to work one day per week in a school-based Traineeship or an Apprenticeship, or, to attend a TAFE course or to do structured Work
Placement or Work Experience in a Vocational area of their choosing. In 2008 students will receive the new Queensland Certificate of Education, providing they meet the stated requirements.
The development of literacy and numeracy skills is foundational to all learning. The achievement and progress of all students is tracked and monitored in these areas each year, with ongoing communication between teachers, support teachers and parents. As a learnercentred College, the changing need of students at different stages in their development is catered for effectively.
